Spanish with Mrs. Motola

Dear Families:

Welcome to la clase de español!

This year, your child will be learning Spanish by exploring the culture of eight Spanish-speaking countries. Please join us as we travel through each of the countries and communities. In our first unit, your child will learn vocabulary associated with greetings and goodbyes, family members, and friends. As your child “travels” through a foreign country, you may help him or her to expand on these concepts by doing the following activities at home.

  • Ask your child what he or she is learning to say in Spanish at school. Encourage your child to act as if he or she is your teacher. (Ask: How do you say hello to me? How do I say hello to you? How do you introduce me? How do I introduce you?)

  • Encourage your child to talk about the country they are “visiting”.  Allow your child to talk to you in English, but encourage him or her to give some of the information in Spanish. Then, use a map of the world to ask your child where the country they are visiting is at.

  • Ask your child to name the most exciting thing he or she learned about the country they “traveled” to. Then have him or her research the country they are “visiting” and learn something interesting about it.  Allow your child to bring his or her findings back to school to share with the rest of the class.

Also be on the lookout for vocabulary words that will be going home.  I know a lot of you parents are not familiar with the Spanish language, so do not stress out about it.  We will be going over this vocabulary at school and the children should have an understanding of what the words mean and how to pronounce them.

I am so excited to be back this year! We are going to have a great time in la clase de español!  If you need to contact me please do so at .
